Willet Science Center, Mercer University

For years, this 1966 facility remained for the most part untouched other than maintenance of systems. Mercer University replaced the facility, and this building was set to become vacant. Located in the center of campus, an adaptive reuse became the focus. SPDG set to work with Mercer administrators from each of four departments to program the spaces needed for each and those spaces which could be common / shared. After many meetings, the building design and departmental areas were allocated as below. This building had many challenges throughout construction due to its age and time period of construction.

The project required several rounds of budgeting and reworking of shared space to accomplish the final configuration. The programming called for a new code compliant elevator and ADA bathroom facilities along with classroom and lab space needs for each department.
