Pierce County High School: Introduction April 7, 2017

It is an exciting time for Pierce County students and staff as the design for the new Pierce county high school progresses.

The Board of Education was updated on the project Thursday, April 13th.

Dara Bennett ,high school principal, helped explain the programming process and the inclusion of students and teachers in the programming/planning process.

After a thorough discussion and question answer session the Board directed the architect to continue with final design .

The front classroom wing is the first area to be roofed. The rear classroom wing is scheduled to be roofed next. 95% of all concrete slabs are complete. The concrete quality and installation remains very good.

The brick has been selected and ordered for the entire job.

All structural steel is on site and approximately 25% installed.

The walls at the fine arts are are 50% complete and the space already looks good. With verticalconstruction progressing at a better than scheduled rate the community is able to share in the excitement of the future new high school facility.

Construction continues to progress on schedule for the new Vidalia High School.

Approximately 80% of floor slabs are installed . The masonry walls are making good progress.

The first bar joist was installed March 2. 2017. Site work is 85% complete.

A new “small” concrete finisher shown in the photos left his mark on the media center floor slab.

Brick selection has been approved and brick masonry is scheduled to begin in 6 weeks.

The owner has approved locations and type  for the security door hardware.

The steel erection is 95% complete at the front entry and 95% of all steel fabrication is complete and delivered to the site.

The first Concrete Slab was poured on December 15th in the front classroom wing.  The project experienced some rain delays this month, with approximately 4 days of rain.  Footings are 80% complete.  Masonry above finish floor is beginning.  DOT permit has been issued “finally”.  Be sure to review the following link for photographic updates, including drone flyovers.

Construction is in full swing now:  The site work and utility construction continue at a good pace The building construction is making good progress with 60% of footing in place and foundation walls also at 60% complete As shown in the photo electrical and plumbing installation below slab is also in progress.  The compaction test and concrete test results are meeting and exceeding specified requirements.

 

 

 

Construction Update: Vidalia High School

Demolition of existing structures are complete.  The crushing of existing concrete is complete.  The crushed concrete will be reused as aggregate base under new paved areas.  This sustainable design practice will save a substantial amount for the owner.  Site work has been bid and awarded to the low bidder, McClendon Construction Company of Vidalia, GA.

Demolition of the “Oxford” Manufacturing Building continues with 75% completed.

Early clearing and grubbing is underway.

TQ Constructors advertised for all local businesses that are interested in participating in the construction of the New Vidalia High School to attend a local participation meeting.  The meeting was held in the lunchroom of the existing high school on Friday, July 29th.

The 95% contract documents were reviewed by the owner’s and user groups representatives.  The transparency of the design/programming process continues to receive positive comments from all involved.

The 95% completed Contract documents were delivered to the Owner, the Georgia Department of Education and TQ Constructors (CM).  The demolition of the existing “Oxford manufacturing building “ is underway.  The Construction Manager (CM) is expected to deliver the “GMP” (Guaranteed Maximum Price) on or before July 20th, 2016.  Recycling of the concrete, brick, and some steel is also underway, with an eye on cost savings and sustainability.

The demolition bids for the “Oxford” building at Vidalia High School were received by TQ Constructors, Inc. the construction manager for the new Vidalia High School. The low qualified bidder is McLendon Enterprises of Vidalia, Georgia. Work on site is expected to begin in approximately 15 days.

Planning continues for the new Vidalia High School.The construction documents are 75% complete, and the construct-ability review and budget review are underway by TQ Constructors (CM). Communications continue between TQ Constructors and SP Design Group (architects). Demolition bid documents have been delivered to TQ Constructors and bids are expected to be received and evaluated by June 8th, 2016.

An on-site pre-bid meeting was complete on June 3rd, 2016. This meeting was attended by the owner, architect, construction manager, and all demolition subcontractors interested in bidding on the project. All parties were allowed to tour the site and the “Oxford” building. The subcontractors were encouraged to question and comment.

TQ Constructors are working on a final budget estimate in preparation of the GMP (guaranteed maximum price).
